    Mock Trial
The Justice Resource Center administers the New York State Bar Association’s Mock Trial program in New York City, with over 100 private, public and parochial schools participating in a multiple elimination round competition.

New York City students are paired with a law firm, a private attorney, or one of the lawyers from the five District Attorneys’ offices enabling each team to be coached by an expert. Students play the roles of witnesses and lawyers offering testimony and arguments for their client. Students present their oral arguments at the Brooklyn and Manhattan Federal Courts and the New York State Court in Queens. Student arguments are heard before attorneys from the Manhattan, Brooklyn and Queens District Attorneys’ offices and United States Attorneys from the Eastern District.

The mock trial team at the Bronx School of Law and Finance is led by our Assistant Principal, Ms. Goring. Its members consist of Law Academy students. Students prepare for the competition by working after school at office of our mentor law firm, Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal, LLP.

    Moot Court
In the Moot Court Competition students are asked to make oral arguments before the Supreme Court. Unlike Mock Trial, there are no witnesses and no testimony is heard. Teams present their arguments and answer questions before a panel of judges.

In 1988, Fordham University School of Law became the host for this competition. Each year the Fordham editor is responsible for writing the problem to be argued by high school students. Preliminary rounds are held in classrooms at Fordham Law School where law students serve as judges. Finals are held in a United States courtroom before federal judges.

The Moot Court team at the Bronx School of Law and Finance is led by our Assistant Principal, Ms. Goring. Its members consist of Law Academy students. Students prepare for the competition by working after school at the office of our mentor law firm, Sonnenschein, Nath and Rosenthal, LLP.

    Academy Liaisons
Academy Liaisons are selected by the Law Coordinator to act as Academy representatives to the lower grades. They are superior students who have demonstrated their dedication to the Academy through their involvement in Academy events and competitions. Their mission is to help raise academic performance and enthusiasm for the Law Academy among lowerclassmen. Liaisons will visit freshmen and sophomore classes in order to inform them of Academy events, discuss Academy requirements and answer questions the students have about the Academy. In preparation for these meetings, Liaisons meet to plan their discussion topics. Based on each round of meetings, Liaisons suggest future topics and ways to improve the Academy’s relationship with the lowerclassmen. Liaisons report directly to the Law Coordinator.
