    English for Law and Finance - Through mastery of reading and writing English students will explore the fields of law and finance. The skills and knowledge gained in this class will facilitate each student’s ability to pass the required Regents exams and graduate high school with admission into a college of their choice. This class will demonstrate to students how achievement in their other subjects (Math, Science, American History and English) is critical if they desire success in the areas of law and finance. Students will also complete this course with the understanding that knowledge of law and finance is important regardless of the career path they eventually choose.
    Course Outline


    Computers for Law and Finance - Students gain knowledge and skills in computer literacy, keyboarding, Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, careers in law and finance and the Stock Market game. While we are learning these important skills and concepts, we will also be learning about the fields of law and finance and developing our business writing skills.

    Trial Practice and Procedure - Students entering this course are expected to have an intermediate grasp of legal studies. While important legal concepts will be reviewed, a broad study of the law will not be the focus of this course. Instead, students will gain an in-depth knowledge of trial practice and courtroom procedures through the preparation and implementation of mock trials. Students who complete this course with a satisfactory grade will have gained valuable skills, particularly in the areas of critical thinking and oral presentation. These are crucial abilities that will benefit students throughout their academic careers and beyond.

    Internship - The summer after junior year, qualified students will be offered internship opportunities with law firms and other organizations in the legal field. In addition to attending their worksite, students will be expected to accomplish assignments which will make their internship experience more meaningful. Upon completion of the internship and assignments along with a satisfactory evaluation from their worksite supervisor, students will receive course credit for their participation. The purpose of the internship is to help prepare students for careers as professionals and give them opportunities to practice what they have learned in the classroom in the workplace.
