Ms. L. Cirillo Business and Computer Applications
COURSE OUTLINE AND STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Welcome to Business and Computer Applications! Please take the time to read the following information as it is important to know what your responsibilities as a student in this class will be. Bring this home and have your parent/guardian read it as well. Once you both have read it, please fill out and return the tear-off to me.
If you need to contact me, I can be reached through the school's main office, (718) 561-0113, or through my email address, LCirillo@aol.com. For your information, the school's web site can be found at www.lawandfinance.org
Course Description
In this class you will gain knowledge and skills in computer literacy, keyboarding, the Internet, Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher and PowerPoint, careers in law and finance and the Stock Market game. While we are learning these important skills and concepts, we will also be learning about the fields of law and finance.

1. A notebook
2. Two-pocket folder
3. Loose leaf paper for homework assignments
4. Pencils
Student Rules and Requirements
1. You will enter the classroom quietly and on time and sit in your assigned seat.
2. You will read the "DO NOW" assignment on the board and start it as soon as you enter the room.
3. You will be prepared for class by bringing the items required for this class. Pens are not permitted in a computer room. All writing is to be done in pencil.
4. Absolutely no food or drink will be allowed in the computer room, nor is gum chewing.
5. You will raise your hand to ask questions. You will not call out or disrupt class.
6. You will not write in textbooks, on desks or work areas, computers or any school furniture.
7. You will not bring a "walkman" type device to class.
8. You will not wear a hat (or head cover) in class, except for religious reasons.
9. You will not place anything on the computer. Coats/hats must be placed in lockers.
10. You are expected to act as a mature young adult. Any student who exhibits behavior that is disruptive or potentially dangerous will be denied the use of computer equipment, have their parent/guardian contacted, and will be penalized on their report card grade.
Defacing/Vandalizing Computer Equipment
You will be assigned to use a specific computer. You will be responsible for any damage that has incurred during your session. You are expected to inspect your computer equipment upon arrival. In the event that you find that your computer has been damaged or defaced, immediately report your find to the teacher. Protect yourself! If you ignore any damage that has occurred to the equipment, you may be held accountable.
Policies on Late Assignments
Homework: It must be done neatly and completely or it will be returned and have to be re-done. If you are absent and need to get homework assignments, it is your responsibility to get the assignment. They will be listed on this online bulletin board I have set up.
If you do not have access to a computer, please get the phone number of someone in class to find out the assignment. Late homework will be accepted without penalty if you have a legitimate absence from class. Homework must be handed in the next time you are in class. Late homework without an absence will only be accepted if you speak to the teacher. If you do not have a good reason for handing in a late homework assignment, there will be a point penalty taken from your homework grade.
Reports and Projects: A deadline will be given on any reports or projects assigned. If you miss the deadline date, 10 points will be deducted for each day that the assignment is late. Absence as an excuse for a late assignment will be accepted only if a doctor's note is presented.
Grading Policy
Examinations and Quizzes: 40% (Cheating will not be tolerated. Anyone caught doing so, will receive a zero on that test or quiz.)
Homework: 20% (You are responsible for doing your own homework. If I find two homework assignments are exactly the same, both will receive a zero for that assignment.)
Projects, Reports and Classwork: 20% (All work must be your own. Plagiarized work will be given a zero.)
Class Participation: 20% (Includes attendance, punctuality, attitude, behavior, and participation in class discussions-both speaking and listening)
