About Us
The Law Academy offers students a chance to explore legal studies while pursing their regular high school coursework. In addition to challenging classes including Trial Practice and Procedure, Crime and Punishment in the United States and others, students are offered opportunities to further their knowledge of the law through fieldtrips, presentations by legal professionals, Moot Court and Mock Trial competitions and more. The students’ Academy career culminates in a prestigious internship in which they have the opportunity to put their legal knowledge and professional skills to the test in the real world. While our primary focus is on the educational and professional development of our Academy students, we also work for and cooperate with a number of other important groups. The Academy serves the community at large by fostering a body of active, ethical, civic-minded citizens. We serve our business partners by supplying them with qualified interns and rewarding community service opportunities that allow them to use their talent and resources to influence the lives of our students for the better. We serve the parents of our Academy students by keeping them abreast of academic issues and providing them with numerous opportunities to share in their child’s educational experience through fieldtrips, portfolios, interview assignments and more. The Academy serves our student body by offering them an attainable example of professional, successful students and increasing enthusiasm school-wide for academic success and professionalism. The Law Academy of the Bronx School for Law and Finance was established in order to prepare students for academic excellence in college and challenging and rewarding professional careers through nurturing their interest in legal studies. Students who graduate the Law Academy will possess the skills crucial to succeed in today’s business world, particularly in the legal fields. These skills include: critical thinking and reasoning skills, public speaking and presentation skills, business writing skills, debate and negotiation skills and professional technological literacy. |
